Abacus Medicine Group and Delfarma announce that they have entered into an agreement under which Abacus Medicine Group will acquire
Delfarma, one of Poland’s leading parallel importers of medicine.
The acquisition will bring together two companies with shared roots in entrepreneurship and a common ambition to improve access to medicine in Europe. By combining Delfarma’s strong position in Poland and market-leading production capabilities with Abacus Medicine Group’s trading platform and wholesaling activities, the combined organisation will be better positioned to provide medicines to more patients, reliably and competitively priced.
Delfarma is a well-established Polish pharmaceutical company specialising in parallel import into Poland. The company has built strong production capabilities and deep market knowledge. Delfarma will provide direct access to the growing Polish parallel importation market and add capacity and flexibility to Abacus Medicine Group’s existing operations.
“We have high respect for Delfarma’s development over for many years. Much of that is related to what Tomasz Dzitko and the entire Delfarma team have built together. Surprisingly, Delfarma and Abacus were both founded in 2004, and each have have more than 20 years of successful experience with parallel import. Tomasz has developed an organisation with strong capabilities, a respected market position, and a clear vision. We see a strong strategic fit, shared values around entrepreneurship and providing access to medicine, and we look forward to welcoming our future colleagues from Delfarma following completion of the transaction,” says Flemming Wagner, CEO of Abacus Medicine Group.
For Abacus Medicine Group, the acquisition expects to represent both an entry into the Polish market and an expansion of the Group’s production capabilities, complementing existing sites in Hungary and the Netherlands. The announcement comes shortly after the Abacus Medicine Group signed the agreement for a new production site in Budapest. Together, these developments will strengthen the capacity, capabilities and market presence needed to serve more patients across Europe.
Tomasz Dzitko, founder and CEO of Delfarma, will remain involved to support continuity.
“I am proud of the company we have built and the position Delfarma holds today. Above all, I am proud of the people of Delfarma, whose competence and commitment made our journey of more than 22 years possible. Now the time has come for a new chapter. It has been important to find a partner that recognizes the strengths of our organisation and shares our values. I believe that Flemming and Abacus Medicine Group offers both that and the right platform to continue developing Delfarma and expand our contribution to patient access across Poland and Europe. I will remain closely involved to ensure a smooth transition for our employees, suppliers, customers and partners.”
The acquisition marks another step in Abacus Medicine Group’s growth journey, supporting its ambition to serve more European markets by strengthening access to affordable medicine.
The completion of the acquisition is subject to clearance from the Polish competition authority, expected in 6-8 weeks.
